Tom Macken And More Friends Trip To Ireland
September 2008
This trip is for those who feel that if you could visit anywhere in the world you would visit Ireland and experience “the best of the best”.
The “best of the best” trip starts on the Dingle Peninsula where Irish is the spoken language (the “Gaelteach”), the scenery is spectacular and the culture of Ireland is preserved.
Then it’s on to the Aran Islands off the West coast of Ireland. People who visit the islands never want to leave. It is another Gealtach area rich in Irish history, music, dance and language.
The next stop takes us to Mullingar in the Midlands. What makes this part of Ireland the best of the best is the activities planned for Mullingar. The activities include a session at the Uisneach Inn where entertainment is provided by All Ireland Fleadh Ceoil na hEireann participants, an evening and stay at the Greville Arms hotel where local Ceoiltori Eireann musicians and dancers provide entertainment after a group dinner provided by John Cockrane and his staff, and visits to local points of interest including world famous Mullingar Pewter, Locke’s Distillery and Belvedere House! Your tour guide, Tom Macken, grew up in Mullingar and many of his family and friends, and sometimes the local newspaper, welcome him “home”.
Last stop is Dublin including a visit to the Guinness Brewery where you will be fluent in Guinness in no time, Trinity College, Grafton Street and an evening of theatre.
